42 Days
That’s how long it’s been since the last Harry Potter movie was released on DVD. I saved it to my Netflix queue as soon as they had a record for it. I moved it to the top of my queue as soon as it was bumped from my save file to my queue. And still, forty-two days later, I am surrounded by a distinct lack of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
I am not amused. In fact, I’m almost unamused enough to go buy the damned thing, which is, I’m sure, what the distributor intends. (Netflix claims they have been throttled by the distributors, and that they are only allowed to purchase a small quantity of discs for more popular new releases. I don’t see any reason to disbelieve them, as it makes sense, and they have nothing to gain by pissing off their customers.)
Is Your Ctrl-Alt-Shift-J Working?
God help me. Otherwise, I may scream.
Our system was upgraded over the weekend, so all our macros are, of course, broken. Wev. This happens with every upgrade, and it’s not something I intend to get my knickers in a twist over. Others, though? Lordy! I have been asked several times today if my “Ctrl-Alt-Shift-whatever” macro is working.
What the fuck, people?! I haven’t a clue what Ctrl-Alt-Shift-whatever refers to. All my macros have been re-keyed so that the keystrokes are easy for me to remember and reach. Duh. Why on earth would someone use a three- or four-key macro that requires both hands and/or acrobatics, when they can use a simple, two-key macro? Even stupider, why would anyone assume that someone else’s macros are linked to the same hot keys as theirs?
Do these people not think?

I added another layer this morning. This is only the left-hand side of the canvas. It’s actually in landscape format, not portrait.
It’s been a few years since I’ve really painted in oils. I don’t know why, maybe because I’ve been sidetracked by working in books. Anyway, I forgot a lesson I learned years and years ago: be careful to cover the wall behind where you are working. Oops! I now have a lovely spattering of fine dark teal polka dots on the wall above my work bench. I need to re-read my lease. I’m pretty sure that it says that they don’t charge for re-painting if you live in a unit for two or more years. I hope so!
I May Have Lost My Mind
I’ve spent the past couple of hours researching digital SLR cameras and pricing out the various alternatives, to see what would be the best bang for the buck. As if I were actually going to buy one. Aieee! It would be a most excellent way to spend my tax money, and I want a real camera so badly I can taste it. But the price! I repeat: Aieee!
The Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT seems to be the sweet spot, in terms of getting the most for your money. I can get the camera plus basic lens for about $450. I need to call my mom and find out exactly which FD lenses she’s got, because there’s an FD to EF adapter for about $50 that would make them work reasonably well on an EOS-style body. I know she’s got a couple of my lenses, but I don’t remember what sizes or brands they are. I think one is basic, and probably similar to the 18-55mm that comes with the Digital Rebel. I knot that the other is a Tamron, and I want to think it’s a short telephoto lens.
Aaaack! Don’t mind me, I’m just thinking out loud! I don’t ever spend this sort of money on toys, so it’s a little scary to even think about it.
Aieee!
