In Progress

I added another layer this morning. This is only the left-hand side of the canvas. It’s actually in landscape format, not portrait.

It’s been a few years since I’ve really painted in oils. I don’t know why, maybe because I’ve been sidetracked by working in books. Anyway, I forgot a lesson I learned years and years ago: be careful to cover the wall behind where you are working. Oops! I now have a lovely spattering of fine dark teal polka dots on the wall above my work bench. I need to re-read my lease. I’m pretty sure that it says that they don’t charge for re-painting if you live in a unit for two or more years. I hope so!

I May Have Lost My Mind

I’ve spent the past couple of hours researching digital SLR cameras and pricing out the various alternatives, to see what would be the best bang for the buck. As if I were actually going to buy one. Aieee! It would be a most excellent way to spend my tax money, and I want a real camera so badly I can taste it. But the price! I repeat: Aieee!

The Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT seems to be the sweet spot, in terms of getting the most for your money. I can get the camera plus basic lens for about $450. I need to call my mom and find out exactly which FD lenses she’s got, because there’s an FD to EF adapter for about $50 that would make them work reasonably well on an EOS-style body. I know she’s got a couple of my lenses, but I don’t remember what sizes or brands they are. I think one is basic, and probably similar to the 18-55mm that comes with the Digital Rebel. I knot that the other is a Tamron, and I want to think it’s a short telephoto lens.

Aaaack! Don’t mind me, I’m just thinking out loud! I don’t ever spend this sort of money on toys, so it’s a little scary to even think about it.

Aieee!
