My cat Jack has serious luxating patella, really painful. He goes through some issues of pain and refusing to move (so litter box issues). In early March my vet suggested bufenorfine which helped him some, but being an opiate he got the worse constipation. So I quit that and found a veterinary acupuncturist – she is wonderful! Jack is responding so well and given the cost of the drugs she is much less expensive. You might want to see if there is anyone in your area that does this. My vet in Philadelphia told me to try this since she is a “certified” cat acupuncturist. Make sure that the person you see is a board certified vet!

I’ve heard good things about acupuncture for animal pain relief. It does seem to work. I don’t know if anything like that is available locally, but I’ll ask at the re-check.
She’s on a cocktail of gabapentin, rimadyl, and tramadol. She seems to tolerate it well, but I don’t know how long term she can take it. Something else we’ll be discussing Monday.
