I wanted a change from bottles and vases and plain old doodling, so I thought I’d work on something else for awhile. I bound this miniature book, using left over scraps of paper and book board I’d pre-painted with acrylics, about a year ago, as a demo for a book binding tutorial I wrote. Because of the sea foam greens used on many of the pages, my intention was to eventually do something water-themed with it.

I rewarded myself for finishing my taxes by watching teevee. That meant more mindless doodling, of course. I’m working my way through Upstairs, Downstairs right now, and it’s a looooong series, so it ought to take me awhile.

I also rewarded myself by ordering a new DVD burner. My computer seems to eat them, as this will be the second drive I’ve had to replace. Both drives were the same brand, though, so it it could also be that there was something hinky about them. I went with another manufacturer this time, just to be on the safe side. I nearly opted for instant gratification, and picked one up at Target, but I decided I could get one cheaper (as in, half the price!) from Computer Geeks. Altogether, a new drive, 100 blanks, and shipping were the same price as just the drive at Target.

Lazy Sunday Morning

100_3000

I think Harriet may have the right idea. We were waked up at the ass-crack of dawn by Mr. Upstairs plonking away on his keyboard. Electronic harpsichord at 6am is really beyond the pale, I think. I have a feeling there will be napping later today.

I adore the duvet cover in the picture. It came from my mom. Both sides are shades teal (I love teal), but the “right” side has some thin red and yellow stripes I’m not too keen on. It occurred to me that I could flip it over, though. Et voila, problem solved. It’s a heavy, crispy cotton, too, which feels nice. I filled it with a fat, ugly comforter, so it’s wonderfully squishy and crunchy, all at the same time.

The bed side table in the upper left in the picture is the one below. It was really ugly, but sturdy and a nice size and shape. I decided it would be much improved if it were sporting a decoupaged the shit out of it.

Another Dinosaur Egg

This one took forever to get the “right” color blend, for some reason. I like it best of all the dinosaur egg drawings so far, though.

I stopped at Target last night on my way home from work. I was nearly out of glue sticks, and I wanted to check out their marker and pen selection. I picked up a package of 12 non-metallic RoseArt Color Sharp markers, which is what the metallic markers I’ve been using are. The original metallics package, which I no longer have, identified the markers as “gel markers.” The ink rests on top of the paper, which allows them to show up on dark paper. The new marker package does not say “gel” on it, and I was disappointed to find that the ink sinks into the paper. They won’t work for my purposes. Hrmf.

There was a package of RoseArt metallic markers, but there were half as many for three times the price, so I passed on them. Now, I’m wondering if they’ll have the old type of ink or the new type of ink. I’d hate to waste $12 on something I can’t use. Maybe I should just wait, because by the time my current set is worn out, I might be sick of them.
