More Sinks! In! Bags! can be found here. Because it’s totally A Thing, y’all.
Is Your Ctrl-Alt-Shift-J Working?
God help me. Otherwise, I may scream.
Our system was upgraded over the weekend, so all our macros are, of course, broken. Wev. This happens with every upgrade, and it’s not something I intend to get my knickers in a twist over. Others, though? Lordy! I have been asked several times today if my “Ctrl-Alt-Shift-whatever” macro is working.
What the fuck, people?! I haven’t a clue what Ctrl-Alt-Shift-whatever refers to. All my macros have been re-keyed so that the keystrokes are easy for me to remember and reach. Duh. Why on earth would someone use a three- or four-key macro that requires both hands and/or acrobatics, when they can use a simple, two-key macro? Even stupider, why would anyone assume that someone else’s macros are linked to the same hot keys as theirs?
Do these people not think?
Violets Yet Again
This one is a little different from yesterday’s. The colors are cooler, and I used more flash. The downside of that is that there is a shadow in the lower left corner, but the fun side effect is that the tiny little hairs on the blooms sparkle like glitter. They look like they’ve been dusted with flecks of mica.
Violets Again
This was taken with limited flash. With a point-and-shoot camera, you have to fool the sensor or the shutter will stay open too long, resulting in a blurry image. So what I usually do is hold my hand over the flash. Sometimes I block it all out, and others, I let a little bit of light escape. This time, I did the latter.
I processed this one a little differently from Monday’s violets, so the color is warmer.

Musical Cubicles
I was hoping that, when one of my coworkers retired, I would be able to upgrade to her cubicle. It’s in the back of the room, by the window, so it’s nice and quiet. Unfortunately, someone with more seniority than I requested it, so it went to her. That meant that her cube was up for grabs, though.
At first, I was tempted to stay put, because the move would put me closer to the serials department, and they are a rowdy bunch. However, I decided that the pros outweighed the cons, so this afternoon, we played musical cubicles. (This is not a fun game, by the way, as it involves the moving of approximately a brazillion books.)
After getting somewhat settled, I decided that the view from my new cubicle is actually better than that from the coveted cubicle, so I’m glad things worked out this way. Now, if the sun ever comes out again, I’ll be able to see it!
Allergies, I Hates Them
My eyes have been burning ever since I got to work this ayem. Ugh. There’s something toxic in the air here, but I don’t know what it is. With the way the ventilation in this building works, it could be someone painting in the basement or on the 10th floor. Burning eyes and runny nose? It must be happydamnMonday!
Oh, great, now I’m coughing. Maybe I’ll be lucky and this’ll be a harbinger of the plague? Kill me now!
Drain
This was taken at the main library, in the women’s bathroom on the 3rd floor of the west tower. Yes, this was once a Sink in a Bag. The end one, to be exact.
I don’t know what the heck the custodians use to clean the sinks, but there are deep scratches on all the fixtures and drain hardware. This one was the worst, though. The chrome plating is almost entirely scoured away, showing the brass underneath. And you can see greenish areas, where the metal is corroding.
Ew!
Title of the Day
I was over in the the study area on 3W and saw a copy of The great novels of the Bronte sisters sitting on one of the shelving carts. The obvious question is, where is the inevitable companion volume, Not so great novels of the Bronte sisters? ISAGN.
