When It Rains

Frances went to the vet on Thursday. I found a couple of lumps on her undercarriage and was concerned about them. Turns out they were not the fatty tumors of my dreams, but are mammary tumors. So she’s going to need surgery, which is going to be HELLA expensive. Holy crap, I almost choked on my spleen when they gave me the estimate! $1400-1700, depending on what they find once they get inside her.

So if any of y’all have thought to yourself, “Gee, I’d love to have one of those weird little collage-y things she makes all for my very own,” now is your lucky day. I’ve put some stuff up on Etsy. Everything is US$50 or under, except for one artist book.

But just look at the adorable puppy! She has no idea how much anxiety she causes for me, or how stinkin’ cute she is. She just wants it to stop raining. AND SO DO I.

The best gift I have given is a key chane I gave to my dad

Late last night I got tired of dysentery and death on the Oregon Trail and switched to reading Nancy Drew. This was tucked into Password to Larkspur Lane.

I didn’t make it a full 24 hours. Sometime after 2am I fell asleep mid-word.

Tamsen E. Donner

Have reached the Donner Party letters. Yes, *those* Donners. #readathon #deweysreadathon #donnerparty #ladyjournals

Tamsen was opposed to leaving the main road to take the Hastings Cutoff. Sadly, she never made it to California. Instead of evacuating Truckee Lake with the second or third relief party, she chose to stay behind to tend to her dying husband. When she finally left the cabins at Truckee Lake and attempted to walk out on her own, she made it as far as the tents at Alder Creek. There she either died or was killed by Lewis Keseberg.
