I have no idea who this is. Again, it’s from my ex-step-father’s photos.

Great Grandma Nell

Nell (Basquille) Thompson, Atlanta GA, circa 1930
I stayed home sick today. I still feel kind of crappy, but I managed to get another eight letters transcribed, so it wasn’t a total loss. I also have a pot of vegetable soup cooking that I plan to add dumplings to. It smells amazing. I should work on NaNoWriMo, so that I don’t get behind, but I’m not sure I feel like it. A nap is sounding good, though.

Lena Mellisa Smith

Georgia Belle Smith

died 22 October 1973 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, United States
The last two were sisters, and I’m guessing Fred is part of the family, too, but I can’t find him listed in the census. Lena and Georgia Belle were the daughters of Andrew J. Smith and Georgianna Isadore Russell.
ETA: Lena and Fred were cousins! Fred was the son of George Haskell Smith and Frances Isabell Thomas. George Haskell Smith and Andrew J. Smith were brothers, the sons of Horace Harding Smith and Caroline Louisa Shepard.
Family Headstones
Finally, headstones from my own family. I took these in Minnesota last week. The first is my grandpa’s parents, the second is my grandma’s mother, the third is my great-great aunt, and the last is my uncle.

Mary

Mary Wife of Isaac Conyers Died Oct. 24, 1857
I always hate seeing women’s headstones that just list her as the wife of some dude. I searched Ancestry.com for to see if I could figure out her maiden name, but all I turned up were unsourced public trees, some of which have impossible information. As in, several people have attached my Findagrave record to their trees for a Mary M. Tharp. There was a Mary M. Tharp who married an Isaac Conyers in Indiana, but that marriage occurred after this Mary died.
And then someone requested that I update the Findagrave record with information that I thought was suspect. I declined. So I guess they complained and had the information added by someone at Findagrave. I have no reason to believe her maiden name was Burton, or that these linked folks are her family. As far as I can tell, the Mary Burton who married Isaac Conyers lived and died in Bath County, Kentucky in 1868.

Selected U.S. Naturalization Records – Original Documents, 1790-1974 (World Archives Project), District Court (Rolls 049-061) Atlanta, Petitions for Naturalization 1912-1932 (Roll 053) Petitions and Records, Jan 1923-Jan 1925.
Ancestry.com has been gradually updating its database of US Naturalization Records. Last time I looked, Nell wasn’t there, but she is now. I still can’t find her in the 1920 Census, but hopefully she’ll turn up eventually. For now, this is pretty cool!
