Boat

Boat
pencil and oil pastel on paper
4 3/8 x 6 inches

This is just a sketch, not something I am planning on putting up for sail. It’s just too fragile. If you look at it sideways, it will smear. But I like the way it turned out, and I’m thinking of ways to make similar pieces that will be more sturdy.

Notes from the Past

Old poems, to be burned, because they are simply awful.

Wake Up

I went through a large stack of poems I’d written, spanning from 2nd grade through high school. They are terrible. Like, really, really, really awful. Some of them were written on class notes, which also contained doodles and strange, random bits of what I’m sure seemed at the time to be wisdom.

Skaters

Physics class was especially boring, apparently. And alsoplustoo, I have never, ever been able to draw. Are those skaters wearing mohawks or rabbit ears?

Angel

Also from physics class. Could be an angel.  Or maybe not.

Tip of the Day

Freezer paper liner on your cookie sheet palette curling? Magnets to the rescue!

I use an old cookie sheet as a palette, and I usually line it with freezer paper. It has a plastic side that works well. It curls up, though. In the past I’ve taped it down, but it occurred to me today that magnets might be a better solution. And they are!

(The magnets are from the bottom of a shower curtain liner. Piglet removes them, so I’ve got a stash.)

Cabin Fever

The university was closed today, not that I would have tried going to work in this weather. We just got notified that it will be closed again tomorrow, too, which is just as well.

Last night I entertained myself by watching the temperature drop and watching the first episode of Arts & the Mind on PBS. Lots of interesting food for thought there. One of the questions raised is why do we consider the arts optional in US schools? We seem to understand that art is important. We know that without art, creativity, and imagination, all the math and science in the world will do us NO good. And then we turn around and cut the arts from school curricula.

New Paintings Added to the Shop

It’s taken me all damn day, but everything is photographed and listed on Etsy. All of the 22 new paintings are priced at US$50.00, regardless of size. I also renewed a few of the artist books I had listed previously.
