For once, the weather forecast was correct. We got quite a bit of snow last night. Enough that I decided to take a snow day. Most of my patio is sheltered, so only the heavier sleet has blown in where the flower pots are stored, upside down, along the patio window. Leaves got caught in the bottom of this one, then froze and refroze in a pool of water that accumulated.

Delayed Nosypantsing
Coworker A asked me if it was supposed to snow tonight. I looked at Weather.com and gave her the newest forecast. Then, about an hour later, Coworker B informed me that her weather forecaster of choice said something entirely different. Why on earth should I care? I wasn’t the one who wanted to know whether or not it was going to snow, and the person who did want to know left over an hour ago. And besides which, who on earth waits an hour to poke their nose into someone else’s conversation?
WTF?
Fog
Ice Ice Baby
I was transfixed by this stupid video.
I stayed home from work yesterday, not because the roads were particularly bad, but because our parking lot was an ice rink. I figured it would be just my luck to hit someone trying to get out, and that is not the way to start the day, thankyewverymuch.
It Must Be Monday…
…because the blowers just died and the forecast is calling for icy DQQM. The latter isn’t supposed to start until tomorrow night, but still, it’s kind of ruining my day.
On the bright side, today’s holiday luncheon has been either called off or postponed, onna counta icy sidewalks.
Oh, and while I’m complaining, Sugar did not win Survivor. I’m disappointed. I liked Bob, and am happy that he beat Susie (WTF? How did she get three votes?!), but I was really pulling for Sugar.
Thanks, Ike
The remnants of Hurricane Ike blew through Bloomington on Sunday. Heavy winds knocked out power in my area around 3pm. According to Duke, it will likely be off until Thursday or even Saturday.
We are not amused.
The only high points, if you can call them that, are A) it’s not cold out and B) I can take showers at the house where I’m cat sitting. Also, the other half of my apartment complex has electricity (as do all the homes around us–grrr!), so I can still do laundry.
Rain in the Summertime
Trees and Clouds
I’m still amazed at all the new greenness. It was especially vivid today, because of the rain.
I took this at a little after 8pm. The sky was a deep grey (teal here, thanks to Photoshop) with little white clouds skudding along. It was kind of creepy, because they were moving from southeast to northwest, while the grass was flattened by ground level wind moving in the opposite (and normal!) direction.
Watching the storm start to form
When I left for work this morning, there was a bank of clouds starting to move in from the west. There was still enough clear sky in the east at sunrise for the windows across from me to sparkle, but it was pretty hazy and you can see the clouds starting to pile up in the northwest. As the day progressed, the clouds thickened, and this afternoon, the wind picked up just before the rain started.
It ended up being a non-event, storm-wise, but the rain was welcome. My little seedlings are just starting to stick their heads above ground. I was getting worried, because the soil is heavy and full of clay. I wasn’t sure they’d be able to force their way up.
Fog
It’s like pea soup out there. I can’t even see Business/SPEA (that building I’m always pointing my camera at). But! Lookit the trees! They started popping out leaves a week or so ago, but over the weekend they went from pale green fuzz to real, live leaves.
I hope the rain on Saturday and the cool, damp weather makes my seeds sprout. Now that they’re in the ground, I’m kind of anxious. I want flowers now, damnit.
And speaking of, I have primroses and asters sitting under my desk (courtesy of my very kind coworker). Those will go in the ground tonight. She’s going to bring me some daisies and coreopsis, too.
