A narrow band of rain moved through this afternoon, along with gusting wind. I was sitting at my desk, watching the trees toss and the sheets of rain swirl around, and thought maybe I’d take a short video of it. (I’m always amazed at how loud the traffic is, to be audible on the 3rd floor. The rain, too. It was pouring hard.)

Snow and Paint
Yuck. It’s pretty enough, but it’s cold and it’s a pain in the ass to drive in and I’m ready for spring. Which is coming, by the way. I know, because it was still reasonably light out last night at 6pm, despite the fact that it was overcast. Hello, longer days! I have missed you!
Also, we are painting again!
Or, at least, working on paintings we started two years ago. Jeebus. And in the process, I think I’ve discovered that I’m allergic to Daniel Smith paints. I don’t know why, because the ingredients can’t possibly be very different from those of other paints, but other paints do not make me sneeze and sniffle or my nose itch. Very weird.
A Loaf of Bread, a Container of Milk, and a Stick of Butter
I’m wondering where all that snow we were supposed to get went. It seems to have turned into a mostly rain event, though we are starting to get a little bit of snow build-up, now that it’s dark and the temperature has dropped. Somehow I doubt that we’re going to get anywhere near the 14 inches that people at work were talking about yesterday. That just doesn’t happen here. A lot of people must have thought it would, because when I went to the grocery store this morning, there were entire shelves picked clean. That could be as much due to the Super Bow(e)l as the weather, though.
Sesame Street, “Loaf of Bread, a container of milk, and a stick of butter”
This wasn’t taken today, but it’s pretty much how Harriet spent the afternoon. She does not approve of rain, sleet, or snow. I love the way her ear is propped up by the couch.
Snow
Belt of Venus
The Blustery Day
I love that you can hear the sparrows cheeping over the sound of the wind.
Rain
Rain on the Rooftop
The roofers left the stairwell window open today, so I was able to get a clearer photo than I could have if I’d taken it through the glass
I’m going to blame my recently sporadic blogging on the rain. I know we need it, and I’m glad we’re getting it, but I really hate overcast days. If I were blogging every day, I’d spend the whole time complaining about the weather, and who wants to read that? Yuck!
More Storms
Big, stormy clouds moved through early this morning, but then it cleared up. They came back in the afternoon, though, when an impressive line of storms zipped by. Lots of lightning! And thunder! And rain! It was pouring when I left work, then stopped as soon as I got to my car, which of course is where I left my umbrella. Oopsie!
Thunderstorm
Storms freak me the hell out. (Thanks, mom!) Not so badly now that I have a nice, big basement to go to, but still, they’re scary. It’s especially creepy when the sky suddenly gets dark and the trees along the back edge of the field behind my building start dancing.
Now that the worst of it is over, this will be a good afternoon to drink hot chocolate and finish my book.
