Western Sky at Sunrise
There’s not much going on in the east, but the western sky sure is pretty this morning.
Clouds
The clouds to the northwest look like ripples after you throw a stone in a pond.
The View from the Break Room
I like to take sunrise photos from the break room. No one is in there early in the morning, so I can turn off the lights. But the western view isn’t as good. The building and trees block most of the sky. No construction cranes visible from this window, either.
Sunrise Over Wright Quad
Again, I couldn’t get even one coworker to get up off their ass and walk ten feet to the window, to look at the sky. I can’t imagine ever taking something so beautiful for granted.
Belt of Venus
This was the view to the west this morning, just before the sun rose. A thin band of clouds intensified the pink of the Belt of Venus.
An Early Orionid
I saw an early Orionid this morning. It’s far too early for the Orionids (late October is their season), but there it was, nonetheless.
Thomas was having a serious sniff around someone’s mailbox, and I was looking up at Orion. Like you do. And a meteor dropped from his belt. It was like it just fell straight down to the ground.
There are occasionally perks to getting up at 4am to walk the dog.
And of course I always think of this song, when I see a meteor.

Sunrise Over Wright Quad
I took this photo from the break room, because there isn’t usually anyone in there in the early morning, and I can turn off the lights so there’s no glare on the windows. A coworker came in, as I was leaving, and gave me a perplexed look. I pointed to the window, and to this view, and she still couldn’t understand what I was doing.
Sunrise
The view from the parking lot this morning was gorgeous. It made going to work on a Saturday much less annoying.
Double Rainbow
On my way to work this morning, I saw an enormous flash of cloud-to-cloud lightning in the western sky. And then, after the sun rose, there was a gorgeous double rainbow. The sky in the west was still dark with storm clouds, but the sun was shining brightly on the buildings, and off in the distance there were occasional streaks of lightning.
Not a bad way to start the day.
