I thought this was a spicebush swallowtail, but someone on Instagram helped out with properly identifying it as a black swallowtail.
I also saw a zebra swallowtail on campus. I wasn’t quick enough to get a photo, unfortunately. They’re striking!

It stormed, and Thomas was not impressed. Then the tornado warning sirens began, and we went to the basement, and he still wasn’t impressed.
I know quite a few people with storm-phobic dogs, and it is no picnic, so I’m really thankful that Thomas isn’t bothered.

I had a moment of panic, because I couldn’t find Polly. Apparently she’d been having some personal time in the dog crate. The dog crate that the dog will not enter. At least someone is getting some use out of it.

Does giant ragweed serve any purpose beyond making people miserable? There’s a huge stand of it behind my building, with some sections over 10 feet tall. It’s evil, evil, evil stuff.
But there are also butterflies, and butterflies make everything better.

I usually take Thomas in three thirty-minute walks a day. Not a lot of exercise for a young Boxer mix! It takes the edge off, though. Today, on all three walks, it started pouring rain half-way through. I have wet clothes draped over everything, drying.
