Cicada Shell on a Headstone
A cicada left its shell on a headstone. This is from last weekend’s trip to Mount Gilead Cemetery. The heat index this afternoon is 111F–too freaking hot to go outside and take pictures.
Perseids, Ahoy!
The annual Perseid meteor shower is nigh! Tonight and tomorrow night (peak is supposed to be early pre-dawn Friday morning), if the sky is clear, go outside and LOOK UP. It won’t kill you, I promise.
Roma Tomatoes
If the weather doesn’t cool off soon, my brain is going to melt. At the very least, some rain would be nice for my poor little garden.
Ironweed
Ironweed is one of my favorite wildflowers.
Amaranth
You can eat amaranth. I don’t. The birds love the dried seeds in the fall, though, so I plant it and leave it for them. It’s pretty, too, so it’s not like it’s a hardship to watch it grow.

Two beautiful sunrises in a row! Of course, the day was all downhill from there. It was beastly hot, so we had to endure load shedding (the university cycles off parts of the chilled water loop, so that it doesn’t exceed capacity, which means that for most of the afternoon we had no AC at work). O gross!
