Meet the Romper-Stompers

Meet my new upstairs neighbors, the Romper-Stompers. You remember those plastic or tin cups you used to strap to your feet, when you were a kid? There was also the quick and dirty version, where you stepped on the side of a soda can so that the ends molded around the inner and outer sides of your shoes. And then, YOU ROMP. AND YOU STOMP.

So, I like to envision my neighbors with romper stompers on their feet. Because I can’t imagine any other explanation for why grown-assed adults would make that much noise.

(That water noise in the background is the fish aquarium. All the other noises are coming from my upstairs neighbors.)

Still Hot

It was 900 damned degrees at work again today, and I’m not exaggerating. Okay, maybe it was only 83F with 82% humidity, but that’s HOT. Someone opened the door to the west tower (we’re located in the cross section between the two towers) to try to suck some of the cool air from that side of the building. It worked, sort of, but it also created a breeze which set off the pinwheel atop a coworker’s fake ficus tree.

I am not a fan of pinwheels or fake foliage, so this monstrosity makes me cry. Every day. Especially when she changes the decorations on it. It’s now sporting tiny flip-flops and sunglasses. *boggle* The pinwheel on top has actually given me nightmares. Anyway, I thought I’d share the joy. Or misery.

Gust Front

A storm hit yesterday afternoon. Lots of trees down all over town, and some folks won’t have electricity until tonight or maybe tomorrow. It was the leading edge that caused the damage, because of the high winds. After about 15 minutes things quieted down, and after that it was just a rain event. But when the gust front hit, AIEEE! The wind was unbelievable.

We only lost one tree in the back field, which amazes me. The ground is so super-saturated, and tree roots are so shallow, that I expected we’d lose more. There were hundreds of trees down around town, though. Lots of property damage, but from what I’ve heard there were no serious injuries.

More storms are forecast for tonight. O joy.
