Cone-free and Happy

When I come home and take off Harriet’s cone, she does the happy dance of coneless freedom. This involves rubbing her face up and down the back of the couch, flopping around on her back like a trout, and much yawning and sneezing, before collapsing into a heap of happy Boxerness. And sometimes, the joy is just too much and requires a second or even third repetition of the happy dance

See how wonderful the contours of the right side of her butt look? Dr. Koch did a very nice job.

Dead of Cone

We are not amused.

When I got home yesterday, the first thing I did was I remove Harriet’s cone. There was much rejoicing. And then, while I was on the phone with my mom, I turned my back on Harriet for two seconds and she started licking her incision. The cone went back on, which was, as you can see, a major buzzkill. (It came off again as soon as I got off the phone and was no longer distracted.)

I sleep with one eye open.

It’s Baaaack

Duke is publishing regular updates of outage numbers. I checked at 11am, and there were about 6700 customers in Monroe County who still didn’t have power. When I checked again about half an hour later, the number had gone to 6900. Yes. It went up. Restoring power? Ur doin it rong!

That did not bode well, so I came home at noon, because I had a bunch of things to do before it got too dark. Like, haul laundry over to the next building (which, by the way, was kind of a gross experience, as their laundry room has black mold and stinks to high heavens), clean the bad food out of the fridge and freezer, and then go pick up Miss Kitty to take for her subQ treatment. So, lots of business for me.

I managed to schlep my clothes next door, came home, and was standing in the kitchen, trying to decide which tasty, salt-filled, non-perishable snack “food” would do for lunch, when the electricity came back on. Huzzah! I still haven’t cleaned out the fridge and freezer, but I’ll have light to do that by later, so I’m not in a hurry. And, I can actually cook something that resembles real food, so I don’t have to eat Cheetos for lunch. Oatmeal is sounding really good.

Mirrored

I stood inside, with my back to the patio door, holding a cheap magnifying mirror to reflect the outdoor scene behind me. Since my hands were kind of full (camera in one and mirror in the other), I set everything to auto and hoped that something interesting would happen. I like the way it turned out.

Two Days Post-op

I took this yesterday. The incision is a little red, which had me concerned, but it’s not hot or swollen, and the redness is fading. They had to loosen the skin underneath, to get enough slack to close the incision, and I think that’s probably what’s causing the redness. The vet gave her antibiotics, so there shouldn’t be any problem with infection.

Other than the redness, she looks good! I’m amazed at the fact that there’s no swelling. The contours of her butt actually match on both sides now.
