I meant to post this yesterday, but forgot. I was out with the dog, and the sun was shining through the leaves, making them glow.

Went for a Snifty
The flame-leaf sumac is really turning. I noticed this morning though that some of them aren’t.
All of them bloomed a while back. Not all developed fruit. I’m guessing the fruitless ones are male and the ones with fruit are female. But what’s strange is that the fruitless ones are the ones that are turning red. The ones with fruit are way behind. They’ll eventually turn, too, but at this point they’re still mostly green.
Sassafras
Fall is coming. Thanks, I hate it.
Sumac and Zinnia
Now that the bees and flowers are gone, the sumac trees are fruiting. The fruit is edible.
My favorite thing about zinnias is that the flowers contain tinier flowers.
Thirty Seconds of Bliss
This is probably the last day for heavy bee activity. The weather has been weird, so the sumac flowering has been staggered, drawing out the bee activity longer than normal.
You can hear them humming. It’s hypnotic.
Honeybees
The girls are still working hard.
And this is why it’s called flame-leaf sumac.
Reflection
I like the way the sky and trees were reflected in the birdbath.
Eastern Hemlock Tree
I love these cute, little pinecones. they’re maybe an inch tall, at most? Adorable.
Queen Anne’s Lace
Air quality is 150 here, which could be worse, I know. I’m staying indoors as mugh as possible, but the dog has to be walked. Might as well take a few photos while I’m out there.
I love the deer paths wandering through the thicket and trees behind my building. I’m only a few blocks from a major shopping center, but in the other direction I’m just a few flocks from hundreds of acres of thick forest.
Sassafras
I love when the sassafras trees start leafing out.
