Carrots for the Dog's Treat Ball

I got Frances the StarMark Treat Ball a few months ago. She loves it, and it’s held up really well. And it’s soft jelly plastic, so it’s really quiet. I usually stuff it with a few puppy sized dog biscuits, but today, she’d already had as many of those as I thought she should. What to do? I sliced up some chunks of carrot, stuffed them in the treat ball, and gave it to her. It was a big hit!

Franny vs. the Butterfly Bush

Frances loves sticks. I don’t normally want her to play with sticks, onna counta YOU’LL PUT YOUR EYE OUT. Also she is missing a couple of teeth, and I don’t want her damaging the ones she has left or worse, swallowing a piece of stick and poking a hole in her GI tract. So many worries! Franny does not care, though, about any of that. She just wants to play with sticks. Imagine the expression on her face when she realized that there was a stick bush in her yard. It was epic, yo. And then she promptly commenced to destroying it. Like ya’ do.

The butterfly bush was in desperate need of pruning, so all’s well that ends well.

Frances had a rough weekend. On Saturday night, she somehow tore the cruciate ligament on her “good” knee. One minute she was fine, and the next she was three-wheeling it around the house. Her annual check-up was scheduled for Monday, so the vet checked it out and confirmed it’s a cruciate tear. She is full of woe. All her toys and her beloved tennis balls have been put away. She’s back on activity restriction until I can save up the money for surgery.

Somehow, she still manages to stretch out in the frog position. I wonder if it feels good, or if she’s just being pig-headed?

The good news is that, apparently, the TTA (Tibial Tuberosity Advancement) surgery she had last summer is pretty damn stable. It’s expensive, but worth it in the long run for a dog like Frances. That’s what I plan on doing this time around, too, because I’m really happy with how well she recovered from it. That knee is rock solid.

What this means is that I’m going to try to get more things listed in my Etsy shop. There are some pieces there already, mostly small paintings. There will be more to come, too, with all sales going to Franny’s knee fund.

Yawn

Why is it that the one time I get a decent shot of the dog yawning, my camera is in the wrong orientation. If I’d been shooting landscape, this wouldn’t have been so oddly cropped. Somehow, I’m sure this is all Piglet’s fault.

I just got off the phone with the vet, to schedule Franny’s annual exam. Next week will be the anniversary of me adopting her. Harriet died a few days before that, but I’d rather remember a happy occasion. It has been a loooong year, yo.
