Sunday

IMG_3182

Today was a lazy day for Miss Brown.

Not so much for me. I baked another apple pie, then decided to try a veggie shepherd’s pie (baked in a cast iron skillet!). The apple pie was even better than the first one I made, but I forgot to add potatoes to the shepherd’s pie, so it was not as tasty as it could have been. It as probably healthier potato-free, but the yum factor wasn’t as good as it could have been. (How the hell did I forget potatoes?!)

All that baking heated up the kitchen. At one point, it was 75F inside, so I opened the windows, which of course meant that it immediately started storming. Harriet slept through it. She is completely useless for moral support during storms. Luckily it didn’t last long.

Harriet is sleeping on her new super soft leopard print fakety-fake fur blanket. It was on clearance at Target for $6, so I couldn’t resist. It’s very warm, because it’s lined with fleece, and it’s big enough for both Harriet and I to sit under while watching TV.

No Noise is Good Noise

This day? A total waste. I took my car in for an oil change and to get the “I think it’s a warped rotor” problem fixed. Only, they hunted high and low and could not find anything wrong with my car. That’s typical, isn’t it? It only makes the rubbing noise when the temperature is below about 15F, so I guess I’m going to have to wait until the weather gets cold again and take my car back in. If it gets that cold again. In the meantime, I’ll try to look on the bright side: less money spent is a good thing, right?

I was so stressed, worrying about how much this was going to cost, that I didn’t get a damned thing done today, aside from walking the dog and loading the dishwasher.

Oh, and to add to my stress level? I got home last night to find another notice from the property manager about people not picking up after their dogs. I really hate tattling on others, but I guess I’m going to have to call tomorrow and let them know that it’s the folks in number 9. Since they also have a fawn Boxer, I don’t want to risk my dog taking the fall for their laziness. And we’re talking serious laziness, here. They stand inside the main door, with their dog’s outside on retractable leashes, so their dogs just squat anywhere–including on the sidewalk right in front of the door–and the owners don’t pick up after them.

Now, I understand that it’s not always fun or convenient to put on your shoes and coat and take your dogs outside, but if you’re going to have dogs, that’s what you’ve got to do. And if you suspect that you might occasionally feel lazy and just want to let your dog out the back door, then you’d damned well better make sure you get a ground floor apartment, preferably one with its own patio. Duh.

Ice Cream

I know, dogs shouldn’t have chocolate. But there wasn’t actually much chocolate in it, and I rinsed it out before giving it to her. This is what’s known as cheap entertainment–for her and for me. I wish the photos of her with her head in the container had turned out, because they were hilarious. Maybe next time.

Napping

Harriet went back to the vet yesterday. Her ear infection is still not cleared up, and her feet are still bothering her. Swabs from both showed bacteria and yeast, so we got more wipes for her feet, oral anti-fungal/yeast tablets, and drops for her ears. The ear scope and swabs hurt and made her cry and shiver. Poor puppy.

But she was very good for the vet, even though she was in pain. Then again last night, when I was putting drops in her ears, she started shivering. I don’t know if it was in anticipation that it would hurt, or because it really did hurt. She was fine for this morning’s drops, so hopefully her ears are getting less painful.

Pink Sweater

Miss Freezydog got a new sweater yesterday. It’s a cheapo fleece, but I needed to see how it fit and how it’ll wear, before I order something better quality online. Like, in theory, a large should fit her, but she really needs an XL, because she’s so deep chested. Now I know. This one is okay, though not idea, because the fabric is a little stretchy. Alsotoo, pink. We are not a fan.

She also got a new collar. The nylon one she had was still very nice, but because it was braided, it made the fur on her neck lay funny. We’re back to leather, which I prefer.
