Getting Shit Done

2IMG_0394

My root canal turned out to be a non-issue. He gave me a prescription for Vicodin, but I had absolutely no pain when the Novocaine wore off, so it was completely unnecessary. We’ll be saving that little stash for a rainy migraine day, I think.

Since I don’t want to try eating anything too toothsome just yet, I decided to make Cincinnati chili lentils with rice. I’ve been craving lentils, and they lend themselves really well to the seasonings in Cincinnati chili. Yum!

Alsotoo, since I had the afternoon free, I did my taxes. Once again, I-File (Indiana’s on-line service for filing state taxes) told me that I owed a huge amount of money. H&R Block said I get $250 back. I think I’ll go with H&R Block, since they have no dog in this race. Just to be on the safe side, I also did my state taxes by hand, and as far as I can tell, H&R Block is correct. I don’t know what the hell I-File is thinking, but apparently it’s smoking crack.

(Henry is having a rare nap. She’s kinda cute when she’s not rocketing around the house, scratching on doors and windows, or biting me on the head.)

Henry’s Revenge

2IMG_0346

Usually it’s Polly who sleeps on top of Henry, but occasionally, it’s the other way around. I don’t think either one of them are the least bit bothered by being squashed by the other.

I’m also really glad that I bought the cheap PVC-and-nylon kitty jungle gym that sits behind the couch. They spend a lot of time hanging out there. It gives them a good perch to keep an eye on things, without lying on the couch itself, which is Harriet’s territory.

Bad Kittens

2IMG_0138

I was surprised that Polly climbed into the dishwasher. Neither of the cats are very interested in what goes on in the kitchen. I don’t think they’ve ever gotten up on the table or cupboards, and they have absolutely no interest in people food. Polly did seem curious about the squash bits on the potato masher, but she didn’t try to taste them.

On the other hand, they are not the least bit shy about stealing the dog’s bed. Again. I’ve pretty much given up on Harriet having her own bed, because since the kittens arrived, she hasn’t been able to sleep in it. Poor puppy.

Cute Fix

Surprise Kitty Is Surprised

I posted this to Facebook, but I think if everyone on the planet watches it, the world will be a much improved place, so I’m posting it here, too.

I’m finishing up NaNoWriMo, so I’ve got a few hours of writing to do this afternoon. Ugh. But I should be able to complete it this time around, which will feel nice. And then tomorrow, my creative life will be my own again. I’m contemplating doing an art-a-day for December. We’ll see. I don’t want to commit to it just yet.

In other news, Miss Brown went to the vet his morning. Her skin infection is back, including sore, itchy paws, sore, itchy belly, and infected ears. Sadcakes. The vet gave her a two week course of ketoconazole, which will hopefully get things under control. A friend also reminded me that she should be on probiotics, so I need to go out and pick up a bottle of acidophilus.

Instant Review: Canon PowerShot A1100IS

The camera I’ve been wanting was finally in stock, so I bought it. I’ve done a few test shots, and am very, very happy with it. The lens is nice for the price. Lines parallel to the edge of the image are still slightly curved, but much less so than on my other little camera. Image quality is nice and detailed, even in low light macro shots. A little too detailed, maybe. I need to vacuum.

That’s straight from the camera, with no editing. Full size, too, if you click through.

Video is also decent. This was in low light at maximum zoom, so it’s slightly shaky and grainy, but not as much as I would have expected.

Happycakes!

Henry

I have a whole list of stuff that I did not do today. Instead, I sat on the couch with a headache and watched horrible wedding shows on TLC. It was like one of those train wrecks that you can’t look away from. Where on earth do they find these people?!

So, anyway, I did finally empty the dish washer and sorta kinda maybe clean the kitchen, and I did take a few photos of somewhat more or less cooperative kittens. (Miss Brown, on the other hand, is always cooperative with the camera.)
