Sunrise

Sunrise

Did I mention that we had a lightning strike last weekend? It fried my modem, requiring a call to Comcast (I hate phones!) and a visit from a technician to install a new
modem, because our local service center no longer carries equipment.

And then I found that the Ethernet card on my computer had also been fried. I got a USB wireless adapter, for short term, but ordered a new Ethernet card from Amazon. That arrived today.

I turned on my computer, to uninstall the old Ethernet card, shut down, physically installed the new card, tried to tuen the computer back on, aaaaand bupkis. I think the motherboard is dead.

The food news is that the hard drive is probably fine, and if it isn’t, it’s pretty well backed up. I may lose some email and a couple of day’s worth of work, but that’s not the end of the world. Being temporarily computerless might be the end of the world, though!

Happy Adoptabirthdayversary!

Thomas was about a year old when I got him, so we’re celebrating his first adoption anniversary and his second burthday. He hated the hat, so I bribed him with sliced turkey. Talk about an awkward family photo! The first photo was taken at the shelter, while I was waiting impatiently for a staff person to take him from his kennel to the play yard for me.

I can’t believe it’s been a year! The first few weeks were a little bit rocky, while we were both learning about each other, but he has turned into a fabulous dog. He’s sweet, funny, and easy to live with. Best boy ever.

Zinnia After the Rain

Zinnia After the Rain

It stormed all night, with tons of lightning. One strike was almost on top of us, and it fried my modem, so I got a day off from research.

It rained some more (no lightning!) this evening, which was nice. It finally cooled down, and the zinnias look happy.

(No modem means no internet service, which means I’m going through classic Doctor Who withdrawal.)

NACO Training

NACO Training

I’m learning how to create name authority records, at work. As the person teaching the class warned, the material is “excruciatingly dense.” Tomorrow we’re covering corporate bodies, which actually sounds kind of interesting to me, since I used to catalog gov docs.
