Pinhole Experiment

While waiting for the painters, I played around with making a pinhole “lens” for my DSLR. The results are not exactly great, but it was kind of fun. The first two were done with a simple round piece of cardboard with a circle punched in the middle, then a piece of aluminum foil taped over the hole. I poked a teeny tiny hole poked in the foil, then taped the piece of cardboard over the front of my camera.

These turned out better than the one below, which was done with an adapted body cap. I melted a hole in it with a hot safety pin (candle + pliers), then covered the hole with a piece of metallic automotive tape that had a smaller hole poked in it. I think the hole in this one was actually too small.

So I enlarged it slightly.

Obviously, this is going to require tinkering.

Timing

I stayed home today, onna counta crazy allergies and meds that made me unfit to drive and unable to stay awake. And a good thing, too, because at 9am, the drywall guy showed up to patch the ginormous hole in my bathroom ceiling. And then the painters got here this afternoon.

Now that’s timing!

I figured it’d take a few days, because they’d have to do at least two coats of joint compound and each one would need to dry overnight. Apparently not, though. He said they use a product that’s dry to the touch in 20 minutes and sandable in about 30 (depending on humidity).

And now, I get to call Comcast and try to get them to bring me a new DVR, because this one is acting like it’s smoking crack.
